Discover a recently restored watermill typical of southern France, with its ingenious reservoir system (pansière), and enter the world of milling. You'll enter Julien's mill, where an on-site photo exhibition and explanations of how it works await you. A short stroll will allow you to observe two mills from the outside.
The village of Neffies once boasted no fewer than six water mills, all operating in a similar fashion. Each mill was equipped with a vast, long reservoir (pansière), fed by water from an upstream stream. When the basin was full, the mill used the force of the water to turn the wheels and grindstones to produce flour. This technical concept, particularly well adapted to the climatic and hydro-geological constraints of the region, was used throughout the South of France. The site has undergone several restorations by the commune of Neffiès since the 2000s and until very recently. It gives a precise and educational idea of how this type of structure worked.
