Halfway between Bédarieux and the Salagou lake, Carlencas, a small village that dominates the whole valley, has been established since the Visigothic period on a last flow of basaltic lava (black rock), at 458m altitude
Volcanic site, with curious wells covered in masonry stone domes, it huddles around the church of St Martin (11th century). 300m from the centre, a geological lookout, built on the edge of a natural slope, allows you to discover the history of the rocks of the region.
